Lego sets for couples: 7 sets two people can build at once

A good Lego set for two has more than one instruction booklet, and each booklet starts with its own numbered bags. Then both of you build at the same time instead of one person building while the other sorts parts. Our pick for most couples is Diagon Alley Wizarding Shops 76444: five booklets, five separate shop modules and an even split for two.

Every set below was on sale at Lego.com in the US, the UK and our European markets when we checked in October 2026. We counted the booklets in Lego's own instruction downloads and opened them to see where each one starts. Where we built a set ourselves, we say so.

The best Lego set for couples: Diagon Alley Wizarding Shops

Diagon Alley Wizarding Shops 76444

This microscale street is the easiest big set to share fairly. Each of the five booklets builds one module on its own base, and booklets two to five begin with their own bags (6, 9, 13 and 17). Nobody has to wait for the other person's part to be finished. Lego says the modules can stand as one long row, as a two-sided street or apart. As a row, the street is over 88 cm wide, 14 cm high and only 8 cm deep, so it fits on a normal shelf.

For an even split, one person takes booklets 1 and 5 and the other takes 2, 3 and 4. In Lego's PDF versions, both piles come to 272 pages, covers and parts lists included. The shops include Ollivanders, Gringotts and the Leaky Cauldron, with 12 microfigures and the Knight Bus. The parts are small, so put a lamp on the table if you build in the evening.

Booklet counts come from Lego's instruction downloads for each set. Piece counts are Lego's figures. Sets with three booklets need one rule before you start: whoever finishes first opens the third booklet, or you build it together.

Small Lego sets to build as a pair

LOVE 31214

Lego designed this one for two people, and says so on the product page: it comes with two sets of instructions for building with someone else. The second booklet starts at bag 5 and builds two of the four letters. At its end, the letters are put together into Robert Indiana's sculpture, over 25 cm high and wide and 6 cm deep. The first booklet is slightly longer (68 PDF pages against 56), which evens out because the second one finishes the model.

At 791 pieces it is the smallest set in this list, and the one Lego itself suggests for anniversaries, weddings and Valentine's Day. It is also a gentle start for two people who have not built Lego for years.

Bouquet of Roses 10328

Twelve red roses in three stages (four in full bloom, four opening, four buds) plus four sprigs of baby's breath. Lego packs the set in six bags with separate instructions for each stage, so two people can each build four roses and do the last four together. Each stem is a small build of its own, which suits a partner who wants to join in without taking on half a big set. The pink version, Bouquet of Pink Roses 10374, is split the same way.

Neither bouquet comes with a vase. The tallest rose is over 31 cm long, and our guide to vases for Lego flowers lists heights and openings that suit it.

Mineral Collection 21362

Six minerals on three freestanding shelf units, from amethyst to pyrite. Each booklet builds one unit and its minerals, and the second booklet starts at bag 3. We built this set ourselves. The shelf frames are repetitive, while the minerals are small and fiddly, and it is easy to put a part in the wrong place. That makes a good division of labour within each booklet: one of you builds the frame, the other the mineral that goes on it. Placed together, the three units are over 28 cm wide, 18 cm high and 7 cm deep.

Bigger Lego projects for two

The Lord of the Rings: The Shire 10354

Bilbo's hobbit hole with its furnished rooms, the Party Tree and Gandalf's cart, with nine minifigures. The first two booklets are almost the same length (140 and 136 PDF pages), and the second starts on a fresh base with bag 7. That gives you two parallel builds of the same size. The third booklet is short and starts at bag 13. Do it together at the end. The finished model is over 45 cm wide, 27 cm deep and 20 cm high.

Downton Abbey 21373

The largest set here that still fits on a sideboard: over 44 cm wide, 16 cm deep and 30 cm high, with the dining room, library and kitchen inside and 13 minifigures. It has only two booklets, and they are uneven. The second starts at bag 12 on a new base and runs to 336 PDF pages against 196 for the first. Give the second booklet to the faster builder, or let the person who finishes booklet 1 take over part of it.

The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell 10316

Rivendell is built in three sections, and each booklet covers one. Booklet 2 builds the river, the forge and the armoury from bag 12, booklet 3 the council ring from bag 23. So the first two booklets can run side by side. Booklet 3 is the longest and ends by joining the sections, which makes it a good one to build together. Plan the space: Lego states over 72 cm wide and 50 cm deep. Our Rivendell review covers the build in more detail. If you want something longer still, the Titanic 10294 also comes in three booklets, one for each section of the ship.

How to split bags and booklets between two people

  1. Before you open anything, turn to the first building page of each booklet. The bag number shown there tells you which bags belong to it.
  2. Sort the bags into one pile per booklet. Most sets mark each bag with a large number. Open only the bags for the step you are on.
  3. Check where the final assembly happens. In LOVE and Rivendell, it is at the end of the last booklet. Leave that part until both of you are done.
  4. With three booklets, agree in advance who takes the third one, or build it together.
  5. Keep spare parts and the brick separator where both of you can reach them.

A set that comes as one thick book can still be shared, but it takes more planning. One of you builds from the paper book, the other from the free PDF or the Lego Builder app on a tablet.

One table, two builders: the layout

Sit side by side, not opposite each other. You both see the models from the same angle and can compare a step without turning the book around. Each person needs room for an open booklet, a tray or bowl for their own bricks and the bags still to come. Put the box with the unopened bags between you or behind you, not in the middle of the table.

Daylight or a good lamp matters more than space, especially for microscale sets like Diagon Alley and small parts like the Mineral Collection gems. Lay a dark tablecloth or towel down so dropped pieces do not roll off.

Build Together in the Lego Builder app

Lego's free Builder app has a mode called Build Together. It splits the instructions of supported sets between several people, and each builder follows them on their own phone or tablet. Several sets in this list are on Lego's Build Together list, including Diagon Alley Wizarding Shops, LOVE, The Shire and Tudor Corner.

We have used it, and it is more interactive than each person building a separate floor. The app hands out small sub-assemblies and has you pass them to the other builder. Because it jumps between bags, you can end up with several bags open at once, so sorting the bags first matters even more here.

The app is also the easiest way to share a set that comes with only one book. With a modular building such as Tudor Corner, splitting by floor works well because the floors lift off each other. Our guide to your first Lego modular building compares Tudor Corner with Shopping Street.

Lego for couples as a gift

If the set is a gift, the occasion often decides it. LOVE 31214 and the rose bouquets fit Valentine's Day, an anniversary or a wedding, and both stay under 900 pieces. For a birthday or a long winter, Diagon Alley or The Shire gives you a bigger project to share. One habit we like is to build one Christmas set together every December. The new Holiday House 11387 has two booklets, but they are uneven: a short one for the sleigh and a long one for the house.

Building as a pair is slower than building alone. We see that as part of the appeal. Our Lego gift ideas by age and budget and the Lego gifts for adults list more options when the set is for one person rather than two. For an evening of playing rather than building, our list of Lego board games has games that work with two players.

Lego sets for couples: FAQ

Can two people build one Lego set at the same time?

Yes, if the set has more than one booklet and each booklet starts with its own bags. Diagon Alley Wizarding Shops, LOVE, The Shire, Downton Abbey and Rivendell all work this way. With a single-book set, one of you needs the PDF or the Builder app.

What is the best small Lego set for couples?

LOVE 31214 is the clearest choice for a first build together: 791 pieces, two booklets, and a model that Lego designed to be built by two people. Bouquet of Roses 10328 is the alternative if you would rather have flowers on the table.

Do you need the app to build Lego together?

No. Sets with two or more printed booklets split without it. The app helps with single-book sets and adds the Build Together mode, but every builder needs their own device.

Which Lego set for couples should you pick?

  • A small gift to build together: LOVE 31214.
  • Flowers, a stem at a time: Bouquet of Roses 10328 or Bouquet of Pink Roses 10374.
  • Something unusual for a shelf: Mineral Collection 21362.
  • The fairest split: Diagon Alley Wizarding Shops 76444.
  • Two equal builds and a short finale: The Shire 10354.
  • A long project: Downton Abbey 21373 or Rivendell 10316.

The bigger sets need a place to stand afterwards. Our guide to Lego display shelves covers depth and load for models like Rivendell.
