Lego Speed Champions: what to buy for your budget

🗓 Updated:
👤 Marcus

For a first Lego Speed Champions purchase, choose the car the recipient wants to build, then decide whether your budget covers one car or a pair. Porsche 911 GT3 RS 77239 and McLaren W1 77257 suit road-car fans; Ferrari SF-24 77242 is our Formula 1 option; Honda S2000 77241 brings a film character; Lamborghini 77238 gives you two cars together.

Compare the current offers for your country rather than translating a US price into pounds. US and UK availability, shipping and checkout totals differ. The car widgets lead to the local comparison; use the final delivered amount as your spending limit, including any applicable tax.

Which Speed Champions set fits your budget and interests?

SetPiecesAgeCars in the boxMain reason to choose it
Porsche 911 GT3 RS 772393489 and up1Recognisable Porsche road/track styling
McLaren W1 772572879 and up1McLaren styling and adjustable rear wing
Ferrari SF-24 F1 7724227510 and up1Ferrari's 2024 Formula 1 car
2 Fast 2 Furious Honda S2000 772413009 and up1Suki and her film car
Lamborghini Revuelto & Huracán STO 7723860710 and up2Two Lamborghinis with two drivers

This is a shortlist for different buying decisions, not a claim that these are every car in the range. A Ferrari fan has a clearer reason to choose the SF-24 than a small difference in piece count. A two-car gift needs a separate total-price and space check; it is not automatically better value than the single model the recipient prefers.

Porsche 911 GT3 RS Super Car 77239: for the Porsche fan

The Porsche is the stronger choice when the badge and shape are the attraction. Its rear wing, bonnet air intakes, headlights and distinctive rims give you specific details to look at once the build is finished. The included driver wears a Porsche Track Day Experience outfit and has a helmet, so the car can also become the centre of an imagined track day.

With 348 pieces, this is a car-focused project rather than a garage or race circuit. The model measures approximately 16 cm long and 7 cm wide, with a height of around 5 cm. Leave room around it if you want to remove the driver or handle the car without brushing against another display model. The dimensions describe the car, not a protective case or a whole shelf arrangement.

Choose it for someone who follows Porsche or wants the recognisable 911 silhouette. Do not buy it merely because its piece count is higher than the McLaren's: that does not establish a longer build, greater durability or a better deal. Its appeal is the finished subject and the way its details are represented at this compact size.

We have built and tested the Porsche 911 GT3 RS 77239 ourselves.

McLaren W1 77257: for a movable display detail

The W1 gives you a different reason to spend the same sort of budget. Its rear wing is adjustable, and the model includes a rear engine, cockpit, infotainment screen and air intakes. Those features make it worth considering when the recipient enjoys noticing how a car's shape and cabin are recreated, rather than simply collecting a particular badge.

The driver comes with a McLaren outfit, helmet, hair and a wrench. That provides a character for driving and pit-stop stories without turning the box into a fully equipped workshop. The car is approximately 15 cm long, 7 cm wide and 4 cm high. It is a compact desk model, but you still need clearance around the wing to adjust it comfortably.

For a McLaren enthusiast, this is the obvious starting point. For an undecided buyer, the wing is a concrete tie-breaker. It is a movable model feature, not evidence of motorised driving, working aerodynamics or Technic-style mechanical depth. Buy the W1 for the car and that interaction, not for functions it does not promise.

Ferrari SF-24 F1 Race Car 77242: for a Formula 1 fan

Choose the SF-24 when Formula 1 is the attraction. It represents Ferrari's car from the 2024 season, with a driver in Ferrari clothing, sponsor decoration and wider rear tyres. Lift the halo bar to access the cockpit. That makes its subject distinct from a road-car Porsche or McLaren, even when all three offers sit within your single-car budget.

The model is approximately 20 cm long and 7 cm wide, so allow more shelf length than for the W1. Its age marking is ten and up. If the recipient supports a different team, start with that preference rather than buying Ferrari simply because it appears in this shortlist.

2 Fast 2 Furious Honda S2000 77241: for the film and Suki

The Honda changes the choice from car brand to film connection. Its pink convertible body, graphics and Suki minifigure make sense for someone who specifically wants a model from 2 Fast 2 Furious. The interior includes a TV monitor; the car is approximately 16 cm long and 7 cm wide.

Buy it for that character and vehicle, not as a generic substitute for whichever road car is cheapest. The nine-and-up building recommendation describes the set, not whether the film itself is suitable for a child. For a gift, check both the recipient's interests and the family’s preferences.

Lamborghini Revuelto & Huracán STO 77238: when you want two cars

This pack contains both Lamborghinis and two drivers. It suits someone who wants to compare the models side by side, or a shared gift where both builders actually want a Lamborghini. Each car is approximately 16 cm long and 8 cm wide. The 607 pieces cover the whole pack, not each car individually.

Compare its delivered price with the combined cost of two wanted single-car sets. A lower cost per car only helps if both vehicles appeal. For a buyer interested solely in Porsche, McLaren or Formula 1, the larger pack answers a different question. Make space for two models before choosing the box size.

A small budget, one car or a two-car pack?

For a strict low budget, look first at a complete single-car offer. Porsche, McLaren, Ferrari and Honda give you different subjects without requiring a second vehicle. If none fits the delivered-price ceiling, wait for an actual offer; do not budget for a discount that has not appeared.

For a normal single-car budget, choose the favourite subject and compare its exact local offers. Ferrari is the Formula 1 choice, Honda the film choice, and Porsche or McLaren the road-car choice. These categories are more useful than treating every inexpensive box as interchangeable. Check the age recommendation as well as the price.

For a larger budget, compare Lamborghini 77238 with buying two single cars. Divide the delivered pack price by two only when both cars are wanted, and compare like-for-like new, complete products. One well-chosen car remains a complete gift; you do not have to spend the remaining money.

Set your ceiling in your own currency. A US dollar price, UK pound price and euro price are different local offers, not interchangeable price bands. Include shipping and applicable charges, then check the delivery date. A large crossed-out price or retirement label is not a reason to buy a model that the recipient likes less.

First build, gift or shelf collection?

For a child, check the selected set’s nine- or ten-and-up age marking and their comfort with following small, detailed building steps. Familiarity with the real car does not replace that check. If an adult will help, make it a shared project rather than promising that any particular car will be easier. Piece count alone cannot tell you how independently a particular child will build.

A first Speed Champions car also needs patience for the finishing details. If a step calls for stickers, check their position against the instructions before pressing them down. Work at a well-lit table for that stage. For a child who enjoys joining bricks but dislikes careful alignment, an adult can handle that stage while leaving the car assembly to them.

For display, measure the usable shelf depth as well as its length. The Porsche and McLaren are about 7 cm wide, and the Porsche's stated length is 16 cm. An angled arrangement needs different clearance from a straight row. Keep space for moving the model and placing the driver nearby; buying a second car before checking the first one's position can create an avoidable storage problem.

For play, the included drivers give the cars a starting story. However, these recommendations are small, detailed replicas, not purchases of a complete race venue. Choose them when the child wants a recognisable car to build and handle. If the main request is a large mechanical vehicle or a broader type of car, our Lego car guide covers a different decision.

Check the exact box, then buy one good match

Match the five-digit set number on the offer to the model you selected. Check whether it is new or used, complete, available for your address and due before the gift date. A listing for instructions, loose parts or a different Porsche is not a lower-priced offer for 77239. Avoid comparing two totals with different delivery or condition assumptions.

If your budget is flexible across themes rather than fixed on cars, the broader gift-budget guide offers other kinds of projects. Here the recommendation stays narrow: Choose Porsche or McLaren for the preferred road car, Ferrari for Formula 1, Honda for the film, or the Lamborghini pair when both cars are wanted. Keep the delivered total within your limit. That is a more useful first step than trying to collect the whole range at once.
