The Honda S2000 and the Toyota Supra MK4 appear in both current ranges. Pick Lego 77241 or 77260 for the film cars and their drivers, Mattel JFR88 for a standard S2000 with a die-cast twin, and Mattel JKG40 for a larger 1:16 Supra with steering. For American muscle, Mattel's Custom '68 Camaro JFT16 and Lego's Dodge Challenger 77237 are different cars, so that pair is a class comparison.
Lego Speed Champions sets the benchmark: the three cars here are 15 to 17 cm long and 7 cm wide, each with a driver minifigure. Mattel Brick Shop builds Hot Wheels cars at three scales instead. Each Mattel car in this guide comes with a 1:64 die-cast car, a signature plate, swappable wheel covers and a decal sheet.
Seven cars side by side
| Car | Series and scale | Built size (L × W) | Pieces | Age | Extras in the box |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mattel '07 Honda S2000 JFR88 | Speed, 1:32 | Not stated | 257 | 10+ | 1:64 die-cast, metal plate, 2 wheel-cover sets, decals |
| Lego 2 Fast 2 Furious Honda S2000 77241 | Speed Champions, no scale | 16 × 7 cm | 300 | 9+ | Suki minifigure |
| Mattel '94 Toyota Supra MKIV JKG40 | Elite, 1:16 | Not stated | 824 | 10+ | 1:64 die-cast, matte plate, 2 wheel-cover sets (1 metal), decals, extra parts |
| Lego The Fast and the Furious Toyota Supra MK4 77260 | Speed Champions, no scale | 15 × 7 cm | 292 | 10+ | Brian O'Conner minifigure |
| Mattel Custom '68 Camaro JFT16 | Speed, 1:32 | Not stated | 289 | 10+ | 1:64 die-cast, metal plate, 2 wheel-cover sets, decals |
| Lego Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat 77237 | Speed Champions, no scale | 17 × 7 cm | 390 | 9+ | Driver minifigure in Dodge outfit |
| Mattel Mercedes-Benz 300 SL HWW25 | Premium, 1:12 | Not stated | 1,600 | 17+ | 1:64 die-cast with display case, metal plate, 2 metal wheel-cover sets, decals |
Lego states length and width (all three cars are also over 4 cm high) but no scale, while Mattel states a scale but no built size. Compare Mattel by tier rather than by box or listing measurements, and treat piece counts as context, since part sizes differ.
Three Mattel scales against one Speed Champions format
Mattel Brick Shop unveiled its first Hot Wheels builds in May 2025 and sorts them into three series. Speed is the compact tier at 1:32. Elite doubles the scale to 1:16, and the Supra in this guide has 824 pieces. Premium reaches 1:12 for adult display models such as the 1,600-piece 300 SL.
Lego takes the opposite approach, with a published size for every car and no official scale. Because neither figure converts into the other, read the tiers this way: a Mattel Speed car is the direct rival to a Speed Champions car, while Elite and Premium builds belong to a larger class.
Mattel calls these collector builds, and the extras show it: a die-cast car and signature plate to collect, plus wheel covers and decals to customise. Lego builds each car around a driver minifigure instead, using standard parts you can reuse in other Lego models. It lists no steering or opening doors for its three cars; both Mattel Speed cars have opening doors, and the Elite Supra steers.
Mattel's product pages say its pieces "combine with all building sets by Mattel Brick Shop and other name brands". Lego is not named, so this is no promise that Brick Shop parts will mix with your Lego collection. The die-cast car, plate and wheel covers are accessories rather than building parts, so the claim does not cover them either.
Honda S2000: Mattel JFR88 or Lego 77241
Mattel Brick Shop Hot Wheels '07 Honda S2000 JFR88: the road car with a die-cast twin
- Series and scale: Speed, 1:32 (no built size stated)
- Pieces: 257
- Age: 10+
- Features: opening doors, recreated windscreen and spoiler
- Included: 1:64 die-cast car, metal signature plate, two sets of wheel covers, decal sheet

Mattel's S2000 is the standard '07 road car rather than a film car. Much of its appeal comes after the last brick. You choose between two wheel-cover sets, apply the custom decals and display the small die-cast car and metal plate beside the model.
Choose JFR88 if you like the S2000 itself, collect Hot Wheels or want a small build to personalise. There is no driver figure, and without a stated length you plan shelf space from the 1:32 scale alone. It shares that scale with the Camaro JFT16 below.
Lego 2 Fast 2 Furious Honda S2000 77241: Suki's film car
- Pieces: 300
- Age: 9 and up
- Pink film convertible with Suki minifigure
Lego builds the pink convertible from 2 Fast 2 Furious, with anime-style graphics, an interior TV monitor and a rear wing. Suki comes as a minifigure for the driver's seat. The finished car is over 4 cm high, 16 cm long and 7 cm wide.
At 300 pieces and 9+, it starts a year younger than Mattel's car, and the Lego Builder app guides the build. You give up the matching die-cast and the swappable wheel covers. It is the better buy when the film and Suki matter more to you than the S2000 badge.
S2000 verdict: buy Lego 77241 for Suki's film car and a figure to play with. Buy Mattel JFR88 for a standard S2000 with opening doors, a 1:64 companion and changeable wheel covers.
Toyota Supra: Mattel JKG40 or Lego 77260
Mattel Brick Shop Hot Wheels '94 Toyota Supra MKIV JKG40: a 1:16 build with engine and steering
- Series and scale: Elite, 1:16 (no built size stated)
- Pieces: 824
- Age: 10+
- Features: detailed engine, functional steering
- Included: 1:64 die-cast car, matte signature plate, two sets of wheel covers (one metal), decal sheet, extra parts

This Supra moves the comparison into another size class. It is built at twice the scale of the Speed cars. It also has two features Lego does not list for its Supra: a detailed engine and functional steering. Mattel also adds custom parts it calls true to the real Supra.
It is not the film car: the exclusive livery is all black, with carbon fibre-style bricks instead of the film car's orange.
Choose JKG40 for a longer project with moving parts, as long as you have shelf room for a 1:16 model. Treat it as a step up in size from 77260 rather than a straight swap.
Lego The Fast and the Furious Toyota Supra MK4 77260: the orange film car with Brian
- Pieces: 292
- Age: 10 and up
- Brian O'Conner minifigure and chrome-look rims
Lego's Supra is the orange car from The Fast and the Furious, with Troy Lee's "Nuclear Gladiator" graphic, a rear wing and four chrome-look novelty rims. Brian O'Conner comes as a minifigure in T-shirt and jeans. At over 4 cm high, 15 cm long and 7 cm wide, it is the shortest Lego car here.
The 292 pieces are marked 10+, and the Lego Builder app offers a Build Together mode for this set. With no steering or engine on Lego's feature list, you buy it for the film look and the character. It shares the 7 cm width of 77241, so the two film cars make a matching pair.
Supra verdict: buy Lego 77260 for the orange film car and Brian at Speed Champions size. Buy Mattel JKG40 if a larger 1:16 Supra in black, with an engine and steering, is worth the space.
American muscle: Mattel Camaro JFT16 or Lego Challenger 77237
This pair is a class comparison, not a head-to-head of one model. A Hot Wheels Custom '68 Camaro meets a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat: two different American muscle cars at a compact size.
Mattel Brick Shop Hot Wheels Custom '68 Camaro JFT16: Hot Wheels styling on a 1:32 muscle car
- Series and scale: Speed, 1:32 (no built size stated)
- Pieces: 289
- Age: 10+
- Features and styling: opening doors, tail fin, metallic exhaust pipes, bold stripes, wide stance
- Included: 1:64 die-cast car, metal signature plate, two sets of wheel covers, decal sheet
Mattel's Camaro is a Hot Wheels Custom interpretation of the 1968 car, not a stock replica. Bold stripes, a wide stance and metallic exhaust pipes set the look, and the doors open. It was one of the first Brick Shop sets and carries a General Motors licence.
Choose it if you like the Hot Wheels custom look or want a muscle car beside the S2000 JFR88 at the same 1:32 scale. The decal sheet and second wheel-cover set let you change its look. Like the other Mattel cars, it has no driver figure and no stated length.
Lego Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat 77237: a muscle car with a Dodge driver
- Pieces: 390
- Age: 9 and up
- Dodge driver minifigure and bulging bonnet scoop
Lego's Challenger has a long bonnet with a bulging scoop, a bold front grille and twin exhaust pipes. The driver minifigure wears a Dodge outfit. Finished, the car is over 4 cm high, 17 cm long and 7 cm wide.
With 390 pieces it has the highest piece count of the three Lego sets here, and it is marked 9+. Lego lists no steering or opening doors, so the appeal is the muscle-car shape and the driver. Lego lists all three of its cars here at 7 cm wide.
Muscle-car verdict: these are different cars, so start with the one you like. The Lego Challenger brings a driver to play with; the Mattel Camaro brings opening doors, Hot Wheels Custom styling, a die-cast companion and wheel covers to swap.
Mattel Brick Shop Hot Wheels Mercedes-Benz 300 SL HWW25: the 1:12 tier with no Speed Champions rival
- Series and scale: Premium, 1:12 (no built size stated)
- Pieces: 1,600
- Age: 17+
- Details: opening gullwing doors, spare tyre, luggage, upholstery details, metal Mercedes crest and other metal parts
- Included: 1:64 die-cast car with display case, signature metal plate, two sets of metal wheel covers, decal sheet

Speed Champions has nothing at this size. The 300 SL shows what Mattel's Premium tier means: a 1:12 display build for adults, with metal parts and a 17+ age mark. Note that the display case holds the small die-cast car, not the 1:12 model, so plan your own dust protection for the big build.
Choose the 300 SL for one large Mercedes centrepiece rather than a row of compact cars. For a large car from Lego, look beyond Speed Champions, for example in our guide to Lego cars for adults.
Decals, stickers and wheel covers
Both brands use applied decals or stickers for parts of their liveries. Place them carefully and in good light, because they decide how tidy the finished car looks. Mattel's custom decal sheet also leaves some choices to you, so settle on the look before you start.
Mattel's wheel covers change the look of the wheels; they are not replacement wheels or tyres. On the Supra one of the two sets is metal, and on the 300 SL both are. Lego shapes its wheels through rims and tyres instead, such as the chrome-look novelty rims on the Supra 77260.
Before you buy: model numbers, sellers and instructions
Search for the Mattel cars by model number: JFR88, JKG40, JFT16 or HWW25. Hot Wheels is best known for die-cast cars, and the number confirms you are getting the building set. Also check who sells and ships the box, as delivery terms and totals can differ.
Instructions are online for both brands. Mattel offers a PDF for each set on its customer service site, and Lego has downloads and the Lego Builder app.
Common questions
Which brand suits a younger builder?
Lego, by a small margin. Two of its three cars here start at 9+, and each includes a driver to play with. Mattel marks JFR88, JFT16 and JKG40 at 10+ and the 300 SL at 17+.
Can a Lego minifigure drive a Mattel Brick Shop car?
Neither maker says so, so do not plan on it. The Mattel cars here come without a driver, while Lego designs each Speed Champions car around a seat for its own minifigure.
Which should you buy?
- Fast & Furious fans: Lego 77241 and 77260, a matching pair of film cars with Suki and Brian.
- Hot Wheels collectors: Mattel JFR88 or JFT16, for the 1:64 die-cast, signature plate and wheel covers.
- Builders who want functions: Mattel JKG40, with a detailed engine and functional steering.
- Muscle-car fans: Lego 77237 for the Challenger and a driver, or Mattel JFT16 for a Hot Wheels Custom Camaro.
- Adult display: Mattel HWW25, the 1,600-piece Mercedes 300 SL at 1:12.
