Top 5 retiring Lego® Star Wars Sets 2023

🗓 Tue, 20 Jun 2023

In our articles about Lego® Investments we regularly present our favorite Lego Investment Sets for the respective year. One of the most popular themes among Lego investors is Star Wars. This has been confirmed by an analysis of all Lego sets entered into the Brickfact app in the last month. In the month of June, the Star Wars theme dominated the top purchases of the app users, so the ten most common sets were all assigned to the theme around Darth Vader.

For this occasion, we present in this article our top 5 Lego Star Wars investment setsfor 2023. In short analyses, we go into why we consider the mentioned sets to be worthwhile investments. In a separate article, we have already presented the best Lego investment sets for 2023.

1. Lego® Star Wars 75336 Inquisitor Transport Scythe

The Lego® Star Wars 75336 Inquisitor Transport Scythe has a Part Out Value of about $150, resulting in a POV rate of 2.1, which is a mediocre value.

The Inquisitor Transport Scythe is particularly interesting to invest in because of the four exclusive minifigures included. At the current time, the minifigures together already have a value of more than $47, which is almost 50% of the RRP. The average parts price of 10.82 ct/part is an acceptable value.

As a reference a retired set with exclusive minifigures can be cited the 75319 The Mandalorian Forge. This set is one of the best Lego sets of all time and has been retired since early 2023. The Mandalorian Forge has already increased in value by about 100% relative to the RRP of $29.99.

Mandalorian Forge Value Increase

The availability of the set is already decreasing, accordingly the set is rarely available for purchase at good prices. In our opinion, a price of under $70 is a good purchase price for this set.

2. Lego® Star Wars 75333 Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Jedi Starfighter

Also interesting for a Lego® Star Wars investment in 2023 is the 75333 Obi-Wan Kenobi's Jedi Starfighter. The current part out value of the set is about $53, which is about 150% of the RRP of the set. With an average part price of 12.41 ct/part, the set is more expensive than the G Inquisitor Transport Scythe.

The investment potential of the Jedi Starfighter is also due to the included minifigures in this case. With a total value of over $15, the three exclusive minifigures included in the set account for about 45% of the RRP. Based on current market values, we estimate the potential of the minifigures to be slightly worse than the 75336 Grand Inquisitor Transport Ship.

Current information is that the Jedi Starfighter is expected to go retire later this year. The Star Wars set is always on sale for under $23, which is a good purchase price in our opinion.

3. Lego® Star Wars Republic Fighter Tank

In third place in our top five Lego® Star Wars EOL sets is the 75342 Republic Fighter Tank. This set is also expected to go retire this year.

With an average parts price of 17.17 ct/part, the Republic Fighter Tank is relatively expensive. The special feature and the biggest investment potential of the Republic Fighter Tank are also the included minifigures. Three of the four minifigures, which are among the coolest Lego minifigures, are exclusive and, with a value of $38.72, already account for 86% of the RRP. This represents a very good value.

Due to the exclusive marketing by Lego itself, the 75342 Republic Fighter Tank can only be bought in combination with GWPs and VIP points below RRP.

4. Lego® Star Wars 75338 Ambush on Ferrix

The Lego® Star Wars 75338 Ambush on Ferrix appeared in late August 2022 as part of the Star Wars Andor series on Disney Plus. The popularity of the series is also reflected in that of the set. Accordingly, Raid on Ferix is among the ten most popular Lego sets among Brickfact users in June 2023.

The RRP of $79,99 is in an acceptable relation to the POV of about $123. With an average part price of 11.78 ct/part, the set is in the middle in terms of price. The three exclusive minifigures included in the set also show investment potential. The current total value of the minifigures is $38.80, which corresponds to about 49% of the RRP.

The future performance of the set is mainly dependent on two factors. So far, it is unclear whether the Star Wars Andor series will be continued on Disney Plus. If this is the case, there is a possibility that the minifigures will appear in other Lego sets and thus would not be an exclusive part of the Raid on Ferrix sets.

The value of the minifigures would likely drop in this case, but this affects all exclusive minifigures. The set was already available for purchase at a price below $60, which we think is a good purchase price.

5. Lego® Star Wars 75317 The Mandalorian & the Child

The Lego® Star Wars 75317 The Mandalorian and the Child BrickHeadz is ranked fifth in our top five retiring Star Wars sets in 2023. With a market life of three years already, the set is available on the market for a relatively long time.

Estimating the future performance of a BrickHeadz is more difficult. With BrickHeadz, the decisive factor is the collection potential. The Mandalorian and the child are characters from the popular Star Wars series "The Mandalorian".

The appearance of the Mandalorian and the child in the fifth episode of the Star Wars series "The Book of Boba Fett" has created a buzz. According to user ratings on the Internet Movie Database (IMDB), episodes 5 and 6 represent the highlights of the entire season. The high approval rating results from the fascination for these two characters, who have also been featured in the series "The Mandalorian".

This fact makes The Mandalorian and Child BrickHeadz extremely attractive for collectors and accordingly interesting for investors. In the offer, purchase prices of under $13 can be achieved, which is a good purchase price in our opinion. Only the long market life of more than three years could influence the future performance.

Lego® Star Wars as an investment: Our conclusion

Even in 2023, the sets from the Lego® Star Wars theme show great potential for investment.

In four out of five sets, the exclusive minifigures in particular are a decisive factor for future performance. Furthermore, the continuation of series such as The Mandalorian is interesting for some sets.

At the current time, the presented sets are still available at good prices. The purchase of exclusive sets like the Republic Fighter Tank should be combined with the collection of Lego VIP points and GWPs to get a good purchase price. In addition, there are of course many other Lego sets that are interesting for investment. However, it is important to analyze Lego sets in advance before making an investment decision.
